The key facts

When do I need it?
When you need to inspect a component, align a machine, monitor a deformation or rebuild an existing part as a CAD model.
What do you measure?
From small single parts to engine housings, ship hulls and monopiles for offshore wind turbines.
How accurate?
Depending on the method, down to a hundredth of a millimetre, over distances of up to 80 m.
What do I get?
A documented result: a report, a deviation analysis against CAD, a CAD model or a complete 3D model.

Quality inspection and CAD comparison

Do your components meet their tolerances?

Flatness, roundness, squareness: we measure the real geometry of your component and compare it with the design. You get a traceable deviation analysis for your quality assurance.

The same applies to plants in operation. Load, wear and settlement change the geometry over the years. Repeated measurements show how much it has changed.

  • From single parts and flanges for special cranes to monopiles for offshore wind turbines
  • Also in running production and under difficult conditions
  • Results as a report and as graphics, in CAD format on request

From component to model, with the right method

The method depends on the accuracy your task needs.

  • Reverse engineering

From an existing part back to the design. We capture the surface and turn it into surfaces and a CAD model. You can then change the part, copy it or make it directly on a CNC machine.

    Request reverse engineering

  • 3D laser tracking

The laser tracker measures by touch to a hundredth of a millimetre, at distances of up to 80 m. So we can measure small components as well as large sections. It is essential wherever aerospace, automotive or manufacturing need the highest precision.

  • Photogrammetry

Measuring with images, without touching the object. From the photos of a measuring camera we calculate single points and whole surfaces in 3D. At close range we reach sub-millimetre accuracy.

  • 3D modelling

We turn the measurement data into a true-to-scale model: components, free-form surfaces, plants and buildings with their building services. You can use it for planning, for clash detection or to document the current condition.

Our measuring equipment

Measuring to a hundredth of a millimetre

Industrial total station, laser scanner or laser tracker: the instrument depends on the accuracy you need, the size of the object and the conditions on site.

  • 80 m measuring range of the laser tracker
  • 1,100,000 points per second when laser scanning
  • 0.01 mm accuracy to a hundredth of a millimetre

How an industrial measurement works

From the measuring task to a usable result.

  1. Define the task

What do we measure, how accurate must it be, and what are the conditions on site? This decides the method and the effort.

  2. Quote

You get a binding quote before we start. The initial assessment is free of charge.

  3. Measurement on site

We come to you with the right instrument, also in running production.

  4. Evaluation and handover

You get the result documented in a report, as a CAD or 3D model, in the formats you work with.

Costs

What does industrial metrology cost?

Industrial metrology is a freelance professional service. There is no official fee scale. You get a binding quote before we start.

The price depends on the accuracy you need, the size of the object and how easy it is to reach, the time on site and the type of evaluation. Describe your measuring task to us. The initial assessment is free of charge.

Frequently asked questions

Quality inspection and deviation analysis

What does your quality inspection include?

We check components, machines and plants for dimensional accuracy and compliance with standards. The focus is on form and position tolerances such as flatness, roundness, squareness and verticality.

Why is regular quality inspection useful?

In many industries, plants and components are exposed to extreme loads that can lead to wear or deformation. Regular inspections detect deviations early, before they cause damage or failure.

Which components and objects can you inspect?

Our experience ranges from small single parts, flanges, burner hoods and engine housings to ship hulls and monopiles for offshore wind turbines.

Which measuring methods do you use?

Depending on the required accuracy, the result you need and the situation on site, we use a laser tracker, industrial total stations, close-range photogrammetry or 3D laser scanners. We often combine several methods, especially for large components or difficult conditions.

How accurately can you measure?

With our API Radian-Plus 50 laser tracker we capture form and position tolerances to a hundredth of a millimetre at distances of up to 80 metres. Close-range photogrammetry reaches sub-millimetre accuracy, industrial total stations measure to the millimetre even over long distances, and laser scanning reaches millimetre accuracy.

Before we start, we clarify with you which accuracy your task needs. This decides the method, the effort and the price.

How are the inspection results presented?

We present the results in a clear way, for example as a measurement report with values such as diameter or roundness and as a graphic in which deviations are coloured by tolerance class. So you see at a glance where action is needed.

Can you also monitor deformation over a longer period?

Yes. Repeated measurements let us analyse deformation and document changes over time, for example for heavily loaded plant parts or as part of structural monitoring.

Alignment of machines and components

Why is precise alignment of machines and components so important?

Even small deviations in position or angle can lead to more wear, vibration, loss of performance and in the worst case to failure. Precise alignment keeps your plants running longer and better and helps to avoid expensive downtime and repairs.

Which machines and components can you align?

Our experience ranges from small single parts and engine housings to ship hulls and monopiles for offshore wind turbines. We work in shipbuilding and aircraft construction, in mechanical and plant engineering, in the steel and chemical industries and for energy suppliers.

Which tolerances do you check during alignment?

We capture form and position tolerances such as flatness, roundness, squareness and verticality. On request we compare the measured actual geometry directly with your CAD model (deviation analysis).

Reverse engineering

What is reverse engineering?

Reverse engineering is the way from a real object to a digital model, meaning the reconstruction of an existing component or object. We survey the object precisely and derive a CAD model from the data.

When is reverse engineering useful?

Reverse engineering is used whenever there is no design data, or no current design data, for an existing object. Typical reasons are replacement parts, conversions, modernisation or fitting new components to existing structures.

Which objects can you reconstruct?

We capture objects of any size, from single components and machines to ship sections and buildings. Even large objects can be captured in fine detail with high precision.

How does a reverse engineering project work?

First we survey the visible surfaces or structures of the object, for example by 3D laser scanning, and capture them with a large number of points. From this data we create a CAD model that is tailored exactly to how you will use it.

How accurate is the reconstructed model?

The accuracy depends on the method: laser scanning reaches millimetre accuracy, close-range photogrammetry sub-millimetre accuracy and our laser tracker a hundredth of a millimetre.

On site and results

Do you also measure in running production or on site?

Yes. Our instruments are portable, and we measure in the factory, in the hall, on board and outdoors. For difficult conditions we choose a suitable method. We measure single parts as well as engine housings, ship hulls and monopiles for offshore wind turbines.

Can you measure on site outside Germany?

Yes. Our instruments are portable and travel with us. We plan the journey with you and include it in the quote. For clients in the Netherlands and western Germany, our Dersum office near the Dutch border is closer.

What do I receive at the end of an industrial measurement?

That depends on the task. You get a measurement report with the deviations from the nominal geometry, a graphical deviation analysis, a CAD model for further work or a complete 3D model. We document the results so that you can use them in your quality assurance.
