3D modeling
An important purpose of 3D laser scanning is the development of 3D fabrication models for the machine-made production of single objects or huge amounts of equal products. The creation of 3D models includes several complementary work steps requiring a few exceeding engineering services:
Reverse engineering
The process is based on local data acquisition of object surfaces or whole constructional elements using an high-resolution 3D laser scanner.
In this regard the planning of the whole workflow is an essential subject to agreement with the client. The quality of the final product depends basiclly on the precision and accuracy of the 3D data acquisition.
Digital 3D surveying models can be obtained by evaluating the punctual measurement data. They represent 3D reproductions of the measured object and form the basis for further work steps.
3D fabrication models
The creation of digital 3D fabrication models is based on design data, engineering drawings, 3D surveying models from reverse engineering or on a combination of different data.
Referring to 3D surveying models from reverse engineering certain construction elements, shaping profiles and edges are generated with special graphical software. Thus it is ensured that developed fabrication forms comply with all spatial requirements.
Afterwards the created 3D fabrication models are adapted to guarantee harmonic alignments and homogeneous polysurfaces. An optimization step contains particular curvature analyses (like zebra stripes, environment maps).
Using high-class graphical software it is possible to create 3D fabrication models that are either freely designed or optimally adapted to 3D surveying models.
After a quality control the 3D fabrication model can be provided in different data types (3ds, 3dm, dwg, igs, kmz, obj, skp … ). This offers a further use in graphical applications, for visualizations or for machine-made production of structural elements.
3D quality control
To fulfil predefined quality requirements the established 3D fabrication models have to be verified.
The 3D quality control of 3D fabrication models of complex structural elements or other products includes the analyses and comparisons of models:
- Control (set-actual comparison)
- Optimization of 3D fabrication models (e.g. combination of glasses) for production
- Product testing

All process sequences in the development of fabrication models require high precision and accuracy with regard to data acquisition
and different software solutions within the evaluation process. Along with high expertise and extensive experience in engineering geodesy we are able to achieve optimal and high-quality results.
